first and second test on i7 7700k

Postby Gigelz » Sun 8. Oct 2017, 17:05

hey @all,

this thread is a report of my first and second kabylake ln2 experience. i used a i7 7700k which i bought from websmile and was pretested at 5,5ghz 32M stabel with 1,42v @air. after a few pretests with my cascade, the cpu is able to run 6.3/6.4ghz with 1.65v through almost all benchmarks with 2c/2t because of the heat. on ln2, the first test was for the alza oc competition in which i reached the 4th place behind rauf, xtreme addict and wizerty. i was quiet happy with that, because in the past i had lots of trouble on ln2 with water and so on. the setup runs really good 6 hours long on ln2. only the very cold ram was a big problem for the performance. b-die doesn´t like cold.

here are the scores for the alza cup comp:
http://hwbot.org/submission/3643087_
http://hwbot.org/submission/3643086_
http://hwbot.org/submission/3643080_
http://hwbot.org/submission/3643059_

this scores were done just with rsvd switch and manual vcore settings. the rest was almost auto settings.

after that, i bought an inferno heater from vince to fix the cold issue with the memory. that worked quiet well at the second test. the ram was at 8-10 degreee celsius and worked fine at 4000 12-11 in every benchmark. also no condensation issues :) but the next problem was to get the cpu much higher than in the first test. i couldn´t do that. it feels like i can run prime95 at 6837mhz and at 6875mhz even spi 32m is so unstable that i can´t do a pass at 6.9ghz :( i don´t use the rsvd switch this time and found good settings for a cbb at -165 degrees celsius and no cb. but the cpu doesn´t scale with voltages. i can only influence the cb and cbb. but not the overclockability of the cpu -.- i can run 6837mhz geekbench single core full pot with 1.37v dmi, 1.68v pll termination, 1.64v standby and 1.8v core pll. i think i should maybe test a different bios version. i used 0801 for the tests but lot´s of people used 0906.

maybe someone can help with tipps to awake this cpu monster ?

Good tests so far, I think you have headroom on sub voltages, but it can be hard to find ideal settings
